Understanding your syringe
This explains how to read the markings on a U-100 insulin syringe. It does not tell you how much of any compound to draw or inject — that is a decision for a qualified healthcare professional.
Educational / Research Information. Graduation markings, product concentration, reconstitution, and syringe type all change the relationship between the lines on a syringe and the actual volume. The illustration below shows examples only — always verify the numbers and increments printed on your own syringe.
Step 1
First, identify your syringe
Look at the barrel of your syringe. U-100 means a 100-unit-per-milliliter scale. Which size do you have?
Individual tick marks can represent different increments depending on the manufacturer and model. Always verify the numbers and graduation markings printed directly on your own syringe.
